Thank you for visiting the home of Happy Labs!

My name is Jennifer Scheib (rhymes with "tribe").

I'm from Pittsburgh, PA.

I live in Greensboro, NC.

My background is in technical writing.

During my years of producing documentation, I developed a love for photography, as many of my small business clients needed someone to capture the images for their materials.

I quit tech writing in 2004.

My children (ages 16, 14, and 4) attend a performing arts high school, homeschool, and a Montessori school.

In May 2019, I became the official photographer for Greensboro Downtown Parks.

I love my job.

WHY THE NAME  "HAPPY LABS"?

"Happy Labs" comes from our two very happy English labs, Finn (yellow) and Olaf (chocolate). Although I no longer include pet photography in my offerings, I keep the name because it's different, and it works because my images tend to reflect happiness and joy.

THE SHOOT EXPERIENCE

I will pose children when necessary, but their expressions are more genuine when they're allowed to be themselves. Bring a favorite toy or an heirloom item if you wish. If they tend to be shy, we'll embrace it. Just bring a positive attitude and cheer them on.

PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE

I love candids and movement. I don't stick to one particular editing style because every personality, skin tone, environment, lighting situation, and shoot is different. If there is a style you favor, let me know ahead of time.

HOW DOES A DOCUMENTARY ANGLE DIFFER FROM TRADITIONAL PORTRAITS?

Documentary-style photographers usually prefer not to manipulate the subject they're shooting. At an event, I'm constantly scanning the environment for interesting faces and candid stories to tell. On a traditional family shoot, I like to incorporate the background and showcase the whole location. The fun part about documentary-style photography is that every shoot has its own personality!

I love to document.
